Tess of the D'Urbervilles (4 CD)

When John Durbeyfield learns thet he is descended from ancient Norman stock, he and his wife encourage tjeir daughter tess to befriend the neighbouring family of Stoke-d'Urbervilles. Their charming but self-centred son alec is frustrated by her lack of interest in him he forces himself on tess, and she has child which dies.
