The Daughter of the Commandant

Pushkin contributed not only to Russian fyrical and narrative poetry, but also to folk literatüre and the historical novel. The Daughter of the Commandant, which was published in 1836, is considered by Russians his best prose work. This famous historical novel, which is a romanticized account of Pugachev's Rebellion in 1774-1775, is also a precursor of the great Russian novel of the later period.
