Linguistics For Tefl Students

This material is primarily intended as a suppelementary text for course, entitled "An Introduction to Linguistics" which I teach to the second year, ELT Department, School of Education, Atatürk University. In this course, the students explore a variety of genaral questions such as the following: What is language? How is language processed by the human brain? What is the relationship between language and thought, language and society, and language and other fields? In order to work toward answers for these and other questions, students study language, its structure and is relation to other fields. This textbook is planned to provide students with a sound, basic coverage of most of the topics dealt with in the course. It assumes no previous knowledge and is not detalied in its treatment of many topics. I touch sometimes on Turkish and English to provide them samples that they can understand easier.
